A palladium catalysis-mediated approach to coupling aliphatic alcohols with allyl carbonates has been developed. The method allows for the allylation of primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols efficiently under mild conditions. Limitations were explored as well as the asymmetric application of the chemistry. Regiochemical and olefin geometry was controlled in the coupling of unsymmetrical allylating agents. Transient allyl carbonates were observed in the coupling, which comprised the trans-carboxylation of the allyl-carbonate with the requisite alcohol.

Ni(II)-hydrazineylpyridine (Ni(II)-PyH)-catalyzed regioselective synthesis of α-benzyl substituted β-hydroxy ketones from α,β-unsaturated ketones and alcohols is reported a Fenton free-radical reaction. This protocol enables facile access to desired products in good to excellent yields in 12 h using toluene solvent at room temperature to 100 °C. The structural analysis of the products was confirmed by H, C-NMR, GC-MS, and HRMS data.

C-H activation is the most direct way of functionalizing organic molecules. Many advances in this field still require specific directing groups to achieve the necessary activity and selectivity. Developing C-H activation reactions directed by native functional groups is essential for their broad application in synthesis.

The second 3d-transition metal incorporation in Ni-(oxy)hydroxide has a drastic effect on alkaline OER and alcohol dehydrogenation reactivity. While Mn incorporation suppresses the alkaline OER, it greatly improves the alcohol dehydrogenation reactivity. A complete reversal of reactivity is obtained when Fe is incorporated, which shows better performance for alkaline OER with poor alcohol dehydrogenation reactivity.

The pervaporation properties of membranes based on comb-like polysiloxanes when C-C alcohols are removed from water were studied for the first time. It was established that membranes based on comb-like polysiloxanes with linear aliphatic and organosilicon substituents have increased permeability selectivity for C alcohols. The obtained results were interpreted from the point of view of the solubility of the components of the separated mixture in polysiloxanes.
