We study the fluctuation of the number of riding passengers in a few shuttle buses that pass each other freely. We present a dynamical model of the shuttle buses that takes into account the maximum capacity of a bus. The dynamics of the buses is expressed in terms of a coupled nonlinear map with noise. The number of passengers carried by a bus and the time headway between buses exhibit complex behavior with varying trips. It is found that the behavior of the buses exhibits deterministic chaos even if there is no noise. The chaotic motion depends on the loading parameter, the maximum capacity of a bus, the bus's speed, and the number of buses. When the loading parameter is larger than a threshold value, each bus carries a full load of passengers throughout its trip. The dependence of the threshold (transition point) on both capacity and speed is clarified.

Faced with the land use heterogeneity and trip distribution non-equilibrium along the corridor connecting urban district and rural area, the operation characteristics of the all-stop bus, the express bus and the shuttle bus running on the transportation corridor should be given full consideration, as well as the tradeoff between passenger trip cost and bus operation cost during the peak-hour period. In order to realize the reliable decision of bus resources configuration for urban-rural public transportation, a bi-objective programming model of multi-modal urban-rural bus operation scheme is established, where the decision variables include the departure frequency of different bus modals, the terminals of shuttle buses, and the stop scheme of express buses, under the constraints of departure interval, passenger volume, vehicle occupancy, section capacity usage and modal competition. To validate the feasibility of proposed optimization model, an urban-rural bus corridor from Rural Jasmine Ecological Park in Hanjiang District to West Xiangyang Bridge in Songqiao Town was chosen as a study case, and the operation organization scheme of three bus modals were solved by the mathematical solver Lingo using mixed integer programming.

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death in the United States, and disproportionately impact communities of color. Replacing human control with automated vehicles (AVs) holds the potential to reduce crashes and save lives. The benefits of AVs, including automated shuttles, buses, or cars could extend beyond safety to include improvements in congestion, reductions in emissions, and increased access to mobility, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Background: There is a risk for transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and other respiratory viruses in motor vehicles, particularly if ventilation is inadequate.
Methods: We used carbon dioxide monitoring to examine the quality of ventilation in several public transportation buses and in university student shuttle vans in the Cleveland metro area during peak and non-peak travel times. Carbon dioxide levels above 800 parts per million (ppm) were considered an indicator of suboptimal ventilation for the number of people present.

Unlabelled: After the rapid expansion of the subway system over the past two decades, some cities are preparing to build more suburban railways. The emergence of suburban railways is bound to change the choice of suburban passenger transportation. This paper studies the factors that affect the choice of travel mode at the construction stage of suburban railways, aiming to design a more rational suburban railway network and urban public transport service system.

Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage, is a large mass gathering event that involves performing rituals at several sites on specific days and times in a fixed order, thereby requiring transport of pilgrims between sites. For the past two decades, Hajj transport has relied on conventional and shuttle buses, train services, and pilgrims walking along pedestrian routes that link these sites. To ensure smooth and efficient transport during Hajj, specific groups of pilgrims are allocated with the cooperation of Hajj authorities to specific time windows, modes, and routes.
