This study was performed to assess the clinical results of meniscus refixation using biodegradable Clearfix meniscal screws. Between July 1999 and June 2001 this technique was performed on 65 patients, of whom 60 (27 women, 33 men; 92%) were followed up by clinical examination after an average of 18 months (range 8-34). The average age of the patients at the time of surgery was 30 years (15-58). Two patients had already undergone a partial meniscectomy at the time of follow up; three patients had had a recurrence of typical clinical signs of a meniscal tear. The other 55 patients rated the overall clinical result as "excellent" (n=21), "good" (n=31) or "satisfactory" (n=3). The average Lysholm score [20] at the time of examination was 93 (49-100) points. The Tegner-Lysholm activity grade [29] preinjury was 5.6 (3-9), compared to a grade of 5.1 (3-9) at the follow-up examination. As a result of our study, biodegradable screws can be recommended as fixation devices with a high rate of good and excellent clinical results.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify whether the ratio of the vertebral Hounsfield unit to serum pentosidine (H/P ratio), which reflects bone density and quality, can predict screw loosening after spinal fusion surgery.
Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in 35 patients (mean age 71 ± 10.4 years, 18 men) who underwent spinal interbody fusion for lumbar spine disease between June 2020 and February 2022.

Due to bone loss, implant placement in the posterior mandible is often impossible without prior augentative procedures. The reconstruction of bone defects with horizontal and vertical components using particulated bone grafts requires the placement of a mechanically stable structure for stabilization of the grafting material. Although titanium-reinforced membranes and titanium meshes have been shown to be effective in this indication, the necessity of their removal, often in a separate surgical procedure, is seen as a disadvantage.

The most common surgical procedure to manage the malunion of the bones is corrective osteotomy. The current gold standard for securing the bone segments after osteotomy is the use of titanium plates and allografts which have disadvantages such as possible allergic reaction, additional operations such as extraction of the graft from other sites and removal operation. The utilization of resorbable materials presents an opportunity to mitigate these drawbacks but has not yet been thoroughly researched in the literature.

Background: Titanium (Ti-6Al-4 V) is used for fixation in LeFort I osteotomy, a procedure for treating midface deformities. This study assessed the biomechanical stabilities of two Mg alloys (WE43 and ZK60) as biodegradable alternatives and compared them against Ti using finite element analyses. The LeFort I osteotomy procedure was simulated, and various plate and screw configurations were tested.

In this study, water-insoluble, moisture-resistant starch foams were prepared using an optimized one-step extrusion-foaming process in a ZSK-30 twin screw extruder. The extrusion parameters, including temperature, screw configuration, die diameter, water content, and feeding rates, were optimized to achieve foams with the lowest density and controlled expansion. A screw configuration made up of three kneading sections was found to be the most effective for better mixing and foaming.
