Article Synopsis
  • The Global Mercury Observation System (GMOS) started as a five-year initiative to monitor atmospheric mercury and evolved into a major program supporting global mercury observation efforts under the Minamata Convention.
  • The network consists of 28 ground-based monitoring stations that provide comprehensive data on mercury levels across various latitudes, from the Arctic to the Antarctic.
  • Analysis of mercury data from 2011 to 2020 revealed a significant north-south gradient in mercury concentrations, with notable seasonal variations and decreasing trends in certain remote areas.

Atmospheric mercury species at Nam Co (4730 m a.s.l.), a highland background site in the inland Tibetan Plateau: implications of mercury potential sources.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

September 2024

State Key Laboratory of Tibetan Plateau Earth System, Environment and Resources (TPESER), Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 100101, China.

A field survey was conducted in the central Tibetan Plateau (Nam Co) in China for high-time resolution measurements of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM), gaseous oxidized mercury (GOM), and particle-bound mercury (PBM). Average concentrations (± 1 SD) of GEM, PBM, and GOM from November 2014 to March 2015 were 1.11 ± 0.

Prostate artery embolization using n-butyl cyanoacrylate glue for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia: A six-month outcome analysis in 103 patients.

Diagn Interv Imaging

April 2024

Department of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, François-Mitterrand University Hospital, 21079 Dijon, France; ICMUB Laboratory, UMR CNRS 6302, Université de Bourgogne, 210000 Dijon, France.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility, safety, and 6-month outcomes of prostate artery embolization (PAE) using N-butyl-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) glue as the only embolic agent in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)-related lower urinary tract symptoms.

Materials And Methods: Patients with BPH-related lower urinary tract symptoms who were treated by PAE using methacryloxysulfolane-NBCA mixed with ethiodized oil (1:8 ratio) between September 2018 and January 2023 were retrospectively included. Vascular mapping was made using cone-beam computed tomography angiography.

Angiotensin II (AngII) is a vasoactive peptide hormone, which, under pathological conditions, contributes to the development of cardiovascular diseases. Oxysterols, including 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-HC), the product of cholesterol-25-hydroxylase (CH25H), also have detrimental effects on vascular health by affecting vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). We investigated AngII-induced gene expression changes in VSMCs to explore whether AngII stimulus and 25-HC production have a connection in the vasculature.

Background: Usually hemoglobin and hematocrit are obtained from peripheral venous blood samples processed in equipment for hematic biometry. These parameters can also be determined from arterial samples processed on blood gas equipment. Its variability when using arterial samples and this equipment is unknown, in addition, if the lack of knowledge of this variability affects clinical decisions.
