Pathogenesis of viral hepatitis.

J Biol Regul Homeost Agents

Immunopathogenesis of Viral Hepatitis Unit, DIBIT--San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy.

Published: June 2004

The aim of our research is to use animal models to elucidate the molecular basis for viral clearance and liver disease in the pathogenesis of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. The results herein discussed provide insight into immunological and virological processes that may lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies to terminate chronic HBV and HCV infections.

Probiotics have shown efficacy in preventing and reducing infections caused by common viruses, including rotavirus, norovirus, hepatitis, human papillomavirus (HPV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and herpes simplex virus (HSV). A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, three-arm parallel-group study was conducted on 56 patients with moderate COVID-19 symptoms. Patients were randomly assigned to one of the three groups: standard treatment combined with UBBC-07, standard treatment combined with Unique IS-2, or standard treatment with a placebo.

Introduction: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nervous system, causing acute flaccid paralysis. There have been occasional reports linking Hepatitis A virus (HAV) to GBS. Here we aimed to evaluate the current literature on the association between GBS and HAV, exploring potential mechanisms and clinical implications.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a common clinical problem with urgent respect to demanding early diagnosis. Exosomal miRNAs are reliable and noninvasive biomarkers for the early diagnosis of DILI. However, accurate and feasible detection of exosomal miRNAs is often hampered by the low abundance of miRNAs, inefficient exosome separation techniques, and the requirement for RNA extraction from large sample volumes.

Understanding the opioid syndemic in North Carolina: A novel approach to modeling and identifying factors.

The opioid epidemic is a significant public health challenge in North Carolina, but limited data restrict our understanding of its complexity. Examining trends and relationships among different outcomes believed to reflect opioid misuse provides an alternative perspective to understand the opioid epidemic. We use a Bayesian dynamic spatial factor model to capture the interrelated dynamics within six different county-level outcomes, such as illicit opioid overdose deaths, emergency department visits related to drug overdose, treatment counts for opioid use disorder, patients receiving prescriptions for buprenorphine, and newly diagnosed cases of acute and chronic hepatitis C virus and human immunodeficiency virus.
