Preparation of a poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene-co-methacrylic acid) monolithic stationary phase for the use in capillary electrochromatography (CEC) has been improved by optimizing the polymerization conditions. It is observed that the reaction time strongly affects column efficiency, while the proportion of isooctane in porogen influences peak symmetry of some solutes seriously. The lifetime of the monolithic columns prepared mainly depends on the pH of buffers used. Reproducibility of electroosmotic flow (EOF) from batch to batch columns are lower than 2.8% relative standard deviation. Unlike other types of capillary electrochromatographic monoliths, a pH-dependent EOF was observed on this type of column. Separation of various types of compounds including aromatic hydrocarbons, hormones, anilines, basic pharmaceuticals, and peptides was achieved. The facile preparation and wide application of this monolithic column may make styrene-based polymer a potential stationary phase in CEC.

The release of microcystin (MCs) in aquatic ecosystems poses a substantial risk to the safety of irrigation and drinking water. In view of the challenges associated with monitoring MCs in water bodies, given their low concentration levels (μg/L to ng/L) and the presence of diverse matrix interferences, there is an urgent need to develop an efficient, cost-effective and selective enrichment technique for MCs prior to its quantification. In this work, a gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-functionalized zwitterionic polymer monolith was described and further applied for the affinity enrichment of MCs.

In this study Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) was used to produce bilayer tablets containing rosuvastatin and acetylsalicylic acid. Initially, monolithic tablets of each drug were manufactured using different laser intensities in order to identify their impact on the tablet's dissolution, friability and hardness. After the optimization, the final bilayer tablet was fabricated using a new method, that allowed the printing using different powder blends.

The synthesis of α-amino acids via the electrocatalytic C-N coupling attracted extensive attention owing to the mild reaction conditions, controllable reaction parameters, and atom economy. However, the α-amino acid yield remains unsatisfying. Herein, the efficient electrocatalytic synthesis of α-amino acids is achieved with an atomically dispersed Fe loaded defective TiO monolithic electrocatalyst (Fe-TiO/Ti).

Ground-level ozone pollution poses significant risks to ecosystems and human health and requires effective control measures. This study focused on the monolithic ozone degradation catalyst based on powdered α-MnO and comprehensively investigated its catalytic performance, moisture resistance, and stability. The monolithic catalyst achieved the optimal catalytic activity with an ozone conversion rate of 99% after being calcined at 400 °C for 3 hours.

In this study, 4-vinylphenylboronic acid, ionic liquid, and dipentaerythritolhexakis(3-mercaptopropionate) were used as functional monomers to prepare monolithic column in fused-silica capillaries by thermally induced sulfhydryl-alkenyl click polymerization. Based on the properties of 4-vinylphenylboronic acid and ionic liquid, the monolithic capillary column (VPBA-SH-IL) exhibited excellent permeability and chemical stability with the ability to efficiently enrich trace amounts of cytokinins from complex substrates via B←N coordination, π-π interactions, cation-π interactions, S-π interactions and hydrophobic interactions. Under the optimal adsorption conditions, the adsorption efficiency of VPBA-SH-IL for six cytokinins could reach more than 95 %, and the adsorption capacities ranged from 0.
