The Asteraceae (formerly Compositae) family of plants is the second largest family of flowering plants, accounting for 10% of all flowers as well as numerous herbs, weeds, and vegetables. In North America, Asteraceae dermatitis classically manifests as seasonal allergic contact dermatitis, often localized to the upper extremities. This review explores the etiology, cutaneous manifestations, and management of Asteraceae dermatitis.

Background: Few studies have investigated optimal storage conditions or expiration dates for sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) formulations prepared from glycerinated allergen extracts.
Hypothesis/objectives: The objective of this study was to compare concentrations of short ragweed major allergen (Amb a 1) and total protein in SLIT formulations stored at two different temperatures. It was hypothesised that protein concentrations would show greater decline over time in a formulation stored at room temperature (RT) than in one stored under refrigeration.

Background: The number of commercially available plant allergens/extracts is limited and therefore patch testing with fresh/dried plant material may be a necessary supplement in diagnosing plant allergy.
Objectives: To evaluate the usefulness of patch testing with plants "as is" compared to patch testing with commercial and in-house produced plant test materials and to report on species eliciting positive patch test reactions.
Patients/materials/methods: Consecutive eczema patients, who were patch tested between January 2019 and December 2023 and who had at least one positive reaction to a plant allergen and/or extract and/or plant "as is" were included in the study.
