Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a dose-limiting side effect with ineffective preventative and curative treatment. Currently, only Duloxetine has been recommended as effective treatment for CIPN, which has shown individual-dependent, short-term analgesic effects, with limiting adverse effects and poor bioavailability. The neuropeptide, oxytocin, may offer significant analgesic and anxiolytic potential, as it exerts central and peripheral attenuating effects on nociception.

Postpartum hemorrhage, or excessive bleeding after birth, is a leading cause of maternal morbidity. A major cause of postpartum hemorrhage is uterine atony, tiring of the uterus which leads to ineffective contractions. Uterine contractions depend on oxytocin signaling in the myometrium, which in turn depends on expression of the oxytocin receptor (OXTR).

Oxytocin augmentation and neurotransmitters in prolonged delivery: An experimental appraisal.

Department of Biomedical Sciences and Human Oncology, University of Bari, 70121 Bari, Italy.

The uterus is a highly innervated organ, and during labor, this innervation is at its highest level. Oxytocinergic fibers play an important role in labor and delivery and, in particular, the Lower Uterine Segment, cervix, and fundus are all controlled by motor neurofibers. Oxytocin is a neurohormone that acts on receptors located on the membrane of the smooth cells of the myometrium.

: Long and ineffective labor causes hardships for mothers and doctors and increases the rate of cesarean sections and medical comorbidities. Several factors contribute to effective and less painful labor, including maternal age, parity, fetal characteristics, and the medications or procedures that obstetricians use for labor. We aimed to study the factors that affect labor duration and identify those that make labor more effective.

Objective: Light exposure at night is known to produce behavioral aberrations in both human and animal models. One way to mimic light-at-night is through constant light exposure (LL), wherein animals are placed in an environment where a dark phase never occurs. Additionally, the type of housing condition for the rodents in experiments - grouped-housed vs singly-housed - can produce different behavioral responses, even in female mice.
