The European Commission mandated EFSA to assess the toxicity of bromide, the existing maximum residue levels (MRLs), and possible transfer from feed into food of animal origin. The critical effects of bromide in experimental animals are on the thyroid and central nervous system. Changes in thyroid hormone homeostasis could result in neurodevelopmental toxicity, among other adverse effects.

Sepsis is often a cause of mortality in patients admitted to the intensive care unit. Notably, the heart is the organ most susceptible to the impact of sepsis and this condition is referred to as sepsis‑induced cardiomyopathy (SIC). Low triiodothyronine (T3) syndrome frequently occurs in patients with sepsis, and the heart is one of the most important target organs for the action of T3.

Thyroid hormone (TH) and it most active form triiodothyronine (T3) are crucial in promoting mitochondrial biogenesis and maintaining cellular homeostasis during the stress response, but their role in paraquat (PQ)-induced pulmonary fibrosis isunclear. The aim of this study was to examine whether there was a deficiency of TH in mouse lung tissue after PQ administration, and to explore the effect of T3, and potential mechanisms of action, in alleviation of PQ-induced pulmonary fibrosis. We found that the activity and expression of iodothyronine deiodinase 2 (DIO2), an enzyme that activates TH, were higher in the lungs of patients with pulmonary fibrosis than in controls.

Background: Vinblastine is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent for various cancers. We report a case of transient congenital hypothyroidism following maternal exposure to vinblastine during the third trimester of pregnancy and propose possible mechanisms of action.
Method: We utilized the CARE guidelines to report the case.

Background: There is an association between thyroid dysfunction and cerebral infarction (CI), but the causality cannot be determined. A two-sample two-way Mendelian randomization (MR) study was conducted to assess the causal relationship between thyroid function and CI.
Methods: We selected single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with five phenotypes, including CI from the UK Biobank (n = 361,194), hyperthyroidism from the IEU Open GWAS database (n = 484,598), hypothyroidism from the IEU Open GWAS database (n = 473,703), normal thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) (n = 271,040), and normal free thyroxine (FT4) (n = 119,120) from the Thyroidomics Consortium database.
