We analyzed the value of the (n) coefficient of nasal flow in the formula of nasal resistances in order to: (1) calculate nasal flow during the course of the nasal provocation test, and (2) try to find out whether nasal flow maintains the same characteristics during the test. Our results show that values vary between 1.6589 and 1.8801, with a weighted mean of 1.7645--suggesting that the flow is of a mixed character--without significant differences during the course of the test. At the same time we carried out an analysis of the dynamics of nasal flow during nasal provocation.

The use of new oxygen supports associated to non-invasive respiratory strategies is well-established in clinical practice, especially after its extensive application in the management of Covid-19 respiratory failure. The use of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) in patients undergoing procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA) is dramatically increasing. Enzymatic debridement in critical burn patients is a painful treatment that requires an optimal burn pain control protocol as well as a deep sedation for the entire duration of the procedure.

Respiratory interventions including noninvasive ventilation, continuous positive airway pressure and high-flow nasal oxygen generated infectious aerosols may increase risk of airborne disease (SARS-CoV-2, influenza virus) transmission to healthcare workers. We developed and tested a prototype portable UV-C device to sterilize high flows of viral-contaminated air from a simulated patient source at airflow rates of up to 100 l/m. Our device consisted of a central quartz tube surrounded 6 high-output UV-C lamps, within a larger cylinder allowing recirculation past the UV-C lamps a second time before exiting the device.
