High-resolution gridded dataset of China's offshore wind potential and costs under technical change.

Sci Data

January 2025

State Key Joint Laboratory of Environment Simulation and Pollution Control (SKLESPC), School of Environment, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084, China.

Assessing the dynamics of offshore wind potential and costs is essential for low-carbon energy policy decision-making and energy modeling, but no open-source, spatial explicit and technologically detailed dataset is available. This study addresses this gap by employing a consistent assessment framework that integrates GIS analysis, a wind reanalysis model, a component-based cost model and scenario analysis. It identifies suitable space for offshore wind deployment considering 12 technical and policy constraints, estimates hourly output curves, capacity factors, and technology cost dynamics by components across 5058 grid points with a 10 km resolution from 2020 to 2035 under three technical change scenarios.

The electrical resistance (ER) method is widely used for atmospheric corrosion measurements and can be used to measure the corrosion rate accurately. However, severe errors occur in environments with temperature fluctuations, such as areas exposed to solar radiation, preventing accurate temporal corrosion rate measurement. To decrease the error, we developed an improved sensor composed of a reference metal film and an overlaid sensor metal film to cancel temperature differences between them.

Reconstruction of long-term hourly sea level data for Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Sci Data

January 2025

Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation, University of Prince Edward Island, St. Peters Bay, Prince Edward Island, C0A 2A0, Canada.

Regional sea level rise has been regarded a key factor in understanding of climate change impact to coastal communities. As a vulnerable island to sea level rise and storm surges, the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) in Canada lacks sufficient long-term island-wide historic record of sea level data. This has become a major challenge for further studies on coastal environments and climate change adaptation.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how urine output (UO) and urine spot sodium (USS) measurements during a furosemide stress test (FST) can predict the progression of acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients.
  • A total of 50 patients were assessed, with findings revealing significant differences in UO at 1 and 2 hours for those with progressive AKI compared to non-progressive cases.
  • The study concludes that monitoring UO in the first two hours and the change in the urine spot sodium creatinine ratio (USSCR) within six hours post-FST could aid in distinguishing progressive AKI early on.

Land Surface Temperature (LST) is widely recognized as a sensitive indicator of climate change, and it plays a significant role in ecological research. The ERA5-Land LST dataset, developed and managed by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), is extensively used for global or regional LST studies. However, its fine-scale application is limited by its low spatial resolution.
