Background: Sensitive diagnostic tools that signal lymphatic filariasis (LF) transmission are needed to monitor the progress of LF elimination programs. Anti-filarial antibody (Ab) markers could be more sensitive than antigen (Ag) point-of-care tests for monitoring LF transmission in some settings. This study aimed to investigate the sensitivity of anti-filarial Abs for detecting signals of LF transmission in Samoa by i) investigating the sensitivity and specificity of Ab to identify Ag-positives; ii) estimating the average number needed to test (NNTestav) to identify LF-seropositives (seropositive for Ag and/or any Ab), and iii) compare the efficiency of the different serological indicators by target age group and sampling design.

Fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (f-HP) is an interstitial lung disease in which various antigens in susceptible individuals may play a pathogenetic role. This study evaluates the role of transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in identifying a UIP-like pattern and its association with fibrosis progression. We conducted a multicentre retrospective cohort study of patients diagnosed with f-HP who underwent BAL and TBLC between 2011 and 2023.

Comparison of clinical and virological features in pediatric and adult dengue cases at Insein General Hospital during Myanmar's 2022 dengue season.

Trop Med Health

January 2025

Department of Medical Research, Ministry of Health, No.5, Ziwaka Road, Dagon Township, Yangon, 11191, Myanmar.

Background: Myanmar is one of the countries in Southeast Asia where serious dengue outbreaks occur and Yangon is among the regions with the highest number of cases in the country. Intradermal Advanced Glycation End-products Relate to Reduced Sciatic Nerve Structural Integrity in Type 2 Diabetes.

Clin Neuroradiol

January 2025

Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology, Metabolic Diseases and Clinical Chemistry (Internal Medicine 1), Heidelberg University Hospital, Im Neuenheimer Feld 410, 69120, Heidelberg, Germany.

Background: Cardiovascular risk management is beneficial, but stringent glycemic control does not prevent the progression of distal sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSPN). Persistent hyperglycemia-induced alterations and cardiovascular factors may contribute to diabetes-associated nerve damage. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between skin auto-fluorescence (sAF), an indicator of dermal advanced glycation end-product (AGE) accumulations, cardiovascular risk, and changes in peripheral nerve integrity.

Objective: To delineate, within the framework of current clinical practice and criteria, the sustainability of first-line immuno-suppressive treatment discontinuation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the impact of residual disease in remission on long-term drug-free (DF) outcomes.

Methods: RA patients, referring to the Pavia early arthritis clinic (EAC) between 2009 and 2021 and achieving remission after Disease Activity Score-driven methotrexate (MTX) monotherapy, were recruited. Eligible patients underwent DF follow-up at 3-month intervals over 5 years after MTX discontinuation.
