The genus Wittmackia has 44 species distributed in two centers of diversity: the Brazilian clade and the Caribbean clade. The Brazilian clade includes 29 species, with geographic distribution concentrated in the Northeast of Brazil. This study reports the morphology, ultrastructure, pollen viability and stigma receptivity by different microscopy techniques of 23 species of the genus Wittmackia endemic to Brazil and occurring in Atlantic Forest areas.

We outline a protocol to visualize all mouse lower hindlimb skeletal muscles simultaneously. We describe procedures for orientating the whole lower hindlimb in gum tragacanth prior to freezing, simplifying the proceeding experimental steps, and enhancing the comprehensiveness of characterizations. We then detail steps for quantifying muscle fiber size and fiber type characteristics in a single cryosection using histochemistry and immunofluorescence.

Temporal histolocalization of floral volatiles in the petal epidermis of Murraya paniculata was found to be linked with the coordinated expression of candidate genes and successive accumulation of an internal pool of volatiles. Murraya paniculata (Rutaceae) is known for its highly fragrant ephemeral flowers that emit volatiles to attract nocturnal pollinators. To unfold the patterns of volatile emission in relation to floral life-span, we studied time-course accumulation and emission rate of scent volatiles at six timepoints of floral maturation, at an interval of 4 h starting from the bud stage to the senescence stage on the next day.
