Helminthiasis is a common infection in both humans and other animal populations and negatively affects the health of the host, causing a range of morbidity and even mortality, especially in young people and those with weakened immune systems. A variety of diagnostic procedures with a number of modifications are available to identify the sources of infection and to assess the epidemiological situation, the effectiveness of parasite control programs, anthelmintic treatment, and the prevention of drug resistance. These can be simple and cheap methods - for example, stool smear examination - or modern highly sensitive methods - for example, PCR analysis.

The virome, composed of viruses inhabiting diverse ecosystems, significantly influences microbial community dynamics and host health. The phenol-chloroform DNA extraction protocol for viromes, though effective, is time-intensive and requires the use of multiple toxic chemicals. This study introduces a streamlined, scalable protocol for DNA extraction using a commercially-available kit as an alternative, assessing its performance against the phenol-chloroform method across human fecal, mouse fecal, and soil samples.

Background And Aim: The global prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) and blood parasite infections in horses is a significant concern due to their substantial impact on morbidity, mortality, and economic losses in the horse industry. In Thailand, limited research has been conducted on these parasites in horse populations, and data from southern Thailand are lacking. Consequently, this study aimed to estimate the prevalence of GI and blood parasites in horses in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, Thailand.

Sarcopenia is an age-related muscle disorder that increases risks of adverse clinical outcomes, but its treatments are still limited. Gut microbiota is potentially associated with sarcopenia, and its role is still unclear. To investigate the role of gut microbiota in sarcopenia, we first compared gut microbiota and metabolites composition in old participants with or without sarcopenia.

Humans develop hyperuricemia via decreased urate elimination and excess urate production, consequently promoting monosodium urate crystal deposition and incident gout. Normally, approximately two thirds of urate elimination is renal. However, chronic kidney disease (CKD) and other causes of decreased renal urate elimination drive hyperuricemia in most with gout.
