A recent study design for clinical trials with small sample sizes is the small n, sequential, multiple assignment, randomized trial (snSMART). An snSMART design has been previously proposed to compare the efficacy of two dose levels versus placebo. In such a trial, participants are initially randomized to receive either low dose, high dose or placebo in stage 1.

Background: Hypospadias is one of the common congenital anomalies of male genitalia. Although over 300 different operative techniques have been described, post-operative complications are still common, of which glans dehiscence (GD) is the most severe complication requiring redo urethroplasty. Some surgeons use the vascular flap to cover the glanular part of the neourethra to prevent GD, but there are controversies regarding its usefulness.

Purpose: In the context of clinical research, there is an increasing need for new study designs that help to incorporate already available data. With the help of historical controls, the existing information can be utilized to support the new study design, but of course, inclusion also carries the risk of bias in the study results.
Methods: To combine historical and randomized controls we investigate the Fill-it-up-design, which in the first step checks the comparability of the historical and randomized controls performing an equivalence pre-test.
Composite cranial defects have individual functional and aesthetic ramifications, as well as societal burden, while posing significant challenges for reconstructive surgeons. Single-stage composite reconstruction of these deformities entail complex surgeries that bear many short- and long-term risks and complications. Current research on composite scalp-cranial defects is sparse and one-dimensional, often focusing solely on bone or skin.

In recent years, single-stage boost inverters with common ground have shaped the inverter markets due to the many benefits associated with these types of inverters, including their high efficiency, single control scheme, and integrated boost converter. A new boost-type inverter that utilizes a common ground and has fewer switches is proposed in this article. It uses two DC-link capacitors connected in parallel and discharged independently while being charged simultaneously.
