A case of suspected high dose atropine poisoning is described. In a veterinarian good healthy young man the appearance of light coma with psychomotor agitation and the contemporary presence of evident symptoms of muscarinic peripheral block, suggesting an anticholinergic syndrome, an atropine-like intoxication in absence of toxicological analysis. The safely clinical course of the poisoning during observation in intensive care unit permitted the discharge of the patient without sequelae and without treatment with physostigmine as antidote.

A case of severe poisoning in a 2 year-old child who ingested 150 mg of oxaflozane, a non-tricyclic antidepressant, is reported. After loss of consciousness, opisthotonos and coma, recovery was obtained with conservative treatment. Atropine-like symptoms were noted.

From 1975 to 1982, the Austrian Poison Information Centre gave medical advice in forty cases of acute melitracenee-flupenthixol poisoning. The case reports were reviewed and analysed in retrospect. 13 patients who either had ingested less than 20 pills (n = 5) or who underwent early gastric lavage (n = 8) showed no symptoms.

Over-the-counter (OTC) hypnotic preparations (such as Sominex, Nytol, and Sleep Eze) were implicated in 21 of the 773 admissions to Massachusetts General Hospital due to psychotropic drug overdosage between 1962 and 1975. Ten of the 21 cases had manifestations of central anticholinergic toxicity ("atropine-like psychosis"), such as hallucinations, delirium, and confusion. However, all patients recovered rapidly and without sequelae.
