Background: Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is a severe condition causing bilateral pitting edema or signs of wasting in children, with a high mortality risk. An outpatient therapeutic program is recommended for managing SAM children without complications, but there is limited information on recovery time and its determinants.
Objective: This study aims to assess the time to recovery and its predictors among children aged 6-59 months with SAM admitted to the Outpatient therapeutic program in the Borena zone, Oromia region, Southern Ethiopia in 2023.

Purpose: Amoxicillin/clavulanate antibiotic combination is suitable for treating a range of infections, including some suited for Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT). The aim of the study was to evaluate shelf-life values of amoxicillin at clinical concentrations in the presence of clavulanate for use in OPAT.
Methods: A stability-indicating HPLC assay was developed and validated.

Aim: Rheumatic heart disease (RHD), a consequence of acute rheumatic fever (ARF), continues to cause significant morbidity and mortality in susceptible young people. Secondary antibiotic prophylaxis is an effective strategy to prevent ARF recurrence and RHD progression. However, the proportion of patients receiving the recommended minimum benzathine penicillin injections (>80%) remains low.

The PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Scopus databases were searched for articles published between 1965 and 2023, using the following terms: 'hypokalemia' OR 'potassium loss' OR 'potassium deficiency' AND 'beta-lactams' OR 'penicillin' OR 'penicillin G' OR 'cephalosporins' OR 'ceftazidime' OR 'ceftriaxone' OR 'flucloxacillin' OR 'carbapenems' OR 'meropenem' OR 'imipenem' OR 'cefiderocol' OR 'azlocillin' OR 'ticarcillin'. Additional search terms were 'hypokalemia' AND 'epidemiology' AND 'ICU' OR 'intensive care unit' OR 'ER' OR 'emergency department' OR 'ambulatory' OR 'old' OR 'ageing population', and experimental (animal-based) studies were excluded.

Currently, pharmacokinetic information on intravenous (IV) piperacillin/tazobactam in patients with peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis (PD peritonitis) is limited. This study employed a prospective single-dose pharmacokinetic design to assess the pharmacokinetics of IV piperacillin/tazobactam in these patients. Four patients with PD peritonitis who received an IV loading dose of 4000 mg/500 mg piperacillin/tazobactam were enrolled in this study.
