Piper tuberculatum, traditionally known in Brazil as 'pimenta-d'arda,' 'pimenta-longa,' or 'pimenta de macaco,' has been used in Brazilian folk medicine to treat inflammatory symptoms. Considering this species' significant essential oil content, the present study aimed to evaluate the anti-edematogenic and anti-inflammatory effects of the crucial oil Piper tuberculatum (EOPT) in vivo. To this end, Swiss mice (Mus musculus) of both sexes were treated orally with the EOPT at 50, 100, and 250 mg/Kg.

Extracellular vesicles released by probiotics have been demonstrated to effectively alleviate intestinal inflammation, yet the precise underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this research, for the first time, UJS001 (LP-UJS) was isolated from fermented sauerkraut in Zhenjiang, China. Thereafter, the therapeutic effect of LP-UJS-derived extracellular vesicles (LP-UJS-EVs) on dextran sulfate sodium-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) in mice was analyzed to elucidate the immune mechanisms.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease with growing incidence worldwide. Our group reported the compound 5-choro-1-[(2,3-dihydro-1-benzofuran-2-yl)methyl]piperazine (LINS01007) as HR antagonist (pK 6.2) and therefore the effects and pharmacological efficacy on a DSS-induced mice model of UC were assessed in this work.

Antiedematogenic and Analgesic Activities of Abietic Acid in Mice.

Chem Biodivers

December 2023

Laboratory of Pharmacology and Molecular Chemistry (LFQM), Department of Biological Chemistry, Regional University of Cariri (URCA), Crato, CE-63105-000, Brazil.

Exacerbated inflammatory responses to harmful stimuli can lead to significant pain, edema, and other complications that require pharmacological intervention. Abietic acid (AA) is a diterpene found as a significant constituent in pine species, and evidence has identified its biological potential. The present study aimed to evaluate abietic acid's antiedematogenic and anti-inflammatory activity in mice.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract that co-occurs with gut microbiota dysbiosis; however, its etiology remains unclear. MicroRNA (miRNA)-microbiome interactions play an essential role in host health and disease.

Methods: To investigate the gut microbiome and host miRNA profiles in colitis, we used a Dextran Sulfate Sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) model.
