The relationship between Dexamethasone proliferative activity and the presence of glucocorticoid receptors was studied on a human glioblastoma cell line (HU 197). For this purpose, the 17 beta-Carboxamide steroid DXB, a glucocorticoid antagonist that competes with Dexamethasone for binding to the intracellular glucocorticoid receptor but does not trigger the glucocorticoid effect, was used. Concurrent treatments with Dexamethasone and DXB caused an inhibition of the proliferative effect obtained by Dexamethasone. The results obtained demonstrated that the Dexamethasone activity on cell proliferation is a specific receptor-mediated effect.

Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is a major cause of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair failure. Despite many attempts to find therapeutics for PVR, no pharmacotherapy has been proven effective. Steroids, as the epitome, show uncertain clinical effectiveness, which lacks an explanation and hints at unappreciated mechanisms of PVR.

Aim: To investigate the patterns of short-term intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuations and identify the contributing factors following intravitreal injection in patients with retinal vascular diseases.
Methods: Totally 81 patients were enrolled in this case control study. Eyes were categorized into 7 groups, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), idiopathic choroidal neovascularization (CNV), proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), diabetic macular edema (DME), macular edema secondary to branch (BVOME) and central (CVOME) retinal vein occlusion.
