Evaluation of prevalence, risk factors, and therapeutic approach for subclinical endometritis and oviductal occlusion in repeat breeder Holstein cattle.

Res Vet Sci

February 2025

Unit of Reproduction and Obstetrics, Department of Animal Pathology. Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (USC), 27002 Lugo, Spain; Instituto de Biodiversidade Agraria e Desenvolvemento Rural (IBADER), USC, Lugo University Campus s/n, 27002 Lugo, Spain. Electronic address:

Due to the productive and economic consequences of Repeat Breeder (RB) syndrome, the objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence and risk factors for subclinical endometritis (SE) and oviductal occlusion (OO) in RB cows, and to make a therapeutic approach for these pathologies. In 99 RB cows, endometrial cytologies were performed to assess the presence of SE (>5 % polymorphonuclear neutrophils), and the oviductal patency was checked using the phenolsulfonphthalein test. Body condition score was evaluated, and data from each animal were obtained from on-farm software (parity, calving date, artificial insemination (AI) date, number of AI, and occurrence of postpartum diseases).

Structural characterization of degradation products of phenol red used as zero permeability marker in in-situ rat intestinal permeability studies by LCMS-IT-TOF.

J Chromatogr B Analyt Technol Biomed Life Sci

January 2025

Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Anadolu University, Eskişehir 26470, Turkey.

In this study, the quantitative determination of phenol red with using HPLC, the permeability marker widely used in gastrointestinal studies, and its stability in various apolar phase solvents were investigated. In addition, the mechanisms of degradation products obtained were tried to be elucidated by using the LCMS-IT-TOF device. The proposed HPLC method utilizes a Perkin Elmer C, 5 μm, 250 mm × 4.

Phenol red is commonly used in cell culture media, but can be detrimental to bioanalysis of samples as it may impact instrument reliability. Many researchers do their final stage of culture in 'phenol red free' media, but in collaborative work this is not always feasible. A comparison was made between typical extraction methods to reduce phenol red matrix interferences, including organic solvent precipitation and solid phase extraction.

October 2024

Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California-Davis, Davis, CA, 95616, USA; Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Science, School of Medicine, University of California Davis, Davis, CA, 95616, USA. Electronic address:

Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a method to generate phenol red thread tests (PRTT) due to the lack of availability of commercial PRTT.

Methods: White cotton thread was dyed with phenol red (pH indicator) for 48 h, dried, cut, and sterilized. To validate its wicking ability, the thread was inserted into solutions of varying pH, flanking the pH of healthy tears, for different time intervals.

Multifunctional Janus Membrane for Diabetic Wound Healing and Intelligent Monitoring.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

August 2024

State Key Laboratory of Separation Membranes & Membrane Process, Tiangong University, Tianjin 300387, PR China.

The complex microenvironment of diabetic wounds often hinders the healing process, ultimately leading to the formation of diabetic foot ulcers and even death. Dual monitoring and treatment of wounds can significantly reduce the incidence of such cases. Herein, a multifunctional Janus membrane (3D chitosan sponge-ZE/polycaprolactone nanofibers-ZP) was developed by incorporating the zinc metal-organic framework, europium metal-organic framework, and phenol red into nanofibers for diabetic wound monitoring and treatment.
