Unlabelled: During infection, bacterial pathogens rely on secreted virulence factors to manipulate the host cell. However, in gram-positive bacteria, the molecular mechanisms underlying the folding and activity of these virulence factors after membrane translocation are not clear. Here, we solved the protein structures of two secreted parvulin and two secreted cyclophilin-like peptidyl-prolyl isomerase (PPIase) ATP-independent chaperones found in gram-positive streptococcal species.

National Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology, College of Fisheries, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, PR China; Hubei Hongshan Laboratory, Wuhan, PR China; Engineering Research Center of Green Development for Conventional Aquatic Biological Industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, Ministry of Education, Wuhan, PR China. Electronic address:

Objectives: Emerging human pathogens of animal origin have become an increasing public health concern in recent years. The aim of this study was to investigate the transmission of group B streptococcus (GBS) clonal complex (CC) 61 strains in the southern Chinese population and analyze their genetic characteristics.

Methods: Whole-genome sequencing was performed on 693 clinical isolates of GBS collected from southern China between 2016 and 2021, and the prevalence of human CC61 isolates was investigated by genomic epidemiology.

An in-situ forming controlled release soft hydrogel-based C5a peptidase drug delivery system to treat psoriasis.

Department of Chemical Sciences, Bernal Institute, University of Limerick, Ireland; SSPC Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Pharmaceuticals, University of Limerick, Ireland. Electronic address:

The potent pro-inflammatory cytokine, interferon gamma (IFN-γ), is an enticing therapeutic target because of its accelerator role in several acute and chronic inflammatory processes. In this work, poloxamer 407 is developed as an in-situ gelling polymer for a long-acting formulation to deliver a serine protease, C5a peptidase (ScpA) from Streptococcus pyogenes. ScpA is well known for its activity against the complement factor C5a but has also recently been shown to cleave IFN-γ in vitro into inactive fragments.

Unlabelled: Dental caries remains a prevalent chronic disease driven by dysbiosis in the oral biofilm, with playing a central role in its pathogenesis.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the effect of D-tagatose on cariogenic risk by analyzing randomized clinical trials (RCTs).

Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted targeting RCTs published up to 2024 in eight databases and two gray literature sources.

Abscess-forming cervical bacterial infections are rare and serious infections. We retrospectively examined the trends in abscess-forming cervical bacterial infections in children who required inpatient treatment in three periods before (January 2016 to June 2020), during (July 2020 to December 2022) and after the COVID-19 pandemic (January 2023 to June 2024). The study included 96 patients with superficial cervical abscesses and 111 patients with deep cervical abscesses (34 with retropharyngeal abscesses, 51 with peritonsillar abscesses, and 26 with deep neck abscesses).
