The differential physiological responses to heat stress in the scleractinian coral Pocillopora damicornis are affected by its energy reserve.

School of Marine Science and Engineering, Collaborative Innovation Center of Marine Science and Technology, Hainan University, 570228, Haikou, China. Electronic address:

The scleractinian corals conduct various responses upon heat stress such as bleaching and tissue loss, and colonies from the same coral species can conduct differential physiological activities with the biochemical basis unknown. In the present study, factors that influence the heat stress responses in coral Pocillopora damicornis were investigated. It was observed that P.

Piplartine alleviates sepsis-induced acute kidney injury by inhibiting TSPO-mediated macrophage pyroptosis.

Sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (SI-AKI) is the most common organ dysfunction of sepsis, characterized with prolonged hospitalization periods and significantly elevated mortality rates. Piplartine (PLG), an alkaloid extracted from Piper longum within the Piperaceae family, has exhibited diverse pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anti-atherosclerotic, and anti-tumor effects. Herein, we investigated whether the PLG could reverse SI-AKI and explore its possible anti-inflammatory mechanisms.

Polyethylene nanoplastics (NPs) are widely diffused in terrestrial environments, including soil ecosystems, but the stress mechanisms in plants are not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the effects of two increasing concentrations of NPs (20 and 200 mg kg of soil) in lettuce. To this aim, high-throughput hyperspectral imaging was combined with metabolomics, covering both primary (using NMR) and secondary metabolism (using LC-HRMS), along with lipidomics profiling (using ion-mobility-LC-HRMS) and plant performance.

In this work, the fracture mechanism of winding carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRPs) based on epoxy matrices reinforced by polysulfone film was investigated. Two types of polymer matrices were used: epoxy oligomer (EO) cured by iso-methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride (iso-MTHPA), and EO-modified polysulfone (PSU) with active diluent furfuryl glycidyl ether (FGE) cured by iso-MTHPA. At the winding stage, the reinforcing film was placed in the middle layer of the CFRP.

: The diagnosis of meningitis is based on microbiological analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid, and the evaluation of cytosis and biochemical parameters such as protein and glucose levels. Sometimes when there is a traumatic lumber puncture, the cerebrospinal fluid is bloody, which makes it difficult to diagnose. The objective of the study was to examine the performance of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) procalcitonin (PCT) and lactate as potential markers for the diagnosis of meningitis in neonates.
