As speech-related symptoms of Landau-Kleffner syndrome (LKS) are often refractory to pharmacotherapy, and resective surgery is rarely available due to the involvement of the vital cortex, multiple subpial transection (MST) was suggested to improve patient outcome and preserve cortical functions. Here, we analyze the reports about MST use in LKS, regarding its impact on seizures, language, behavior, EEG, cognition, and reported adverse effects. In conditions like LKS, surgery is not a popular treatment option and presumably should be considered sooner.

Previously, we reported that transplantation of regeneration-associated cells (RACs) via the ipsilateral external carotid artery reduced stroke volume in mice with permanent occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA). However, intracarotid arterial transplantation is invasive and requires skill, and severe complications may occur, such as thromboembolism, infection, and decreased cerebral blood flow. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of intravenous injection of RACs in reducing stroke volume and increasing anti-inflammatory and angiogenic factors in mice with focal cerebral ischemia.

Dietary supplementation with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids improves cognitive performance in several animal models of Alzheimer's disease (AD), an effect often associated with reduced amyloid-beta and/or tau pathologies. However, it remains unclear to what extent eicosapentaenoic (EPA) provides additional benefits compared to docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Here, male and female 3xTg-AD mice were fed for 3 months (13-16 months of age) the following diets: (1) control (no DHA/EPA), (2) DHA (1.

Background: Nitroglycerin has been of considerable interest as a treatment for ischaemic stroke. Recent clinical trials with nitroglycerin transdermal patches during the acute phase of stroke failed to improve functional outcomes. Systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of nitroglycerin in preclinical models of ischaemic stroke has not previously been reported, despite several clinical trials.

Delivering cargo to the central nervous system (CNS) remains a pharmacological challenge. For infectious diseases such as HIV, the CNS acts as a latent reservoir that is inadequately managed by systemic antiretrovirals (ARTs). ARTs thus cannot eradicate HIV, and given CNS infection, patients experience neurological deficits collectively referred to as "neuroHIV".
