An auditory steady-state response (ASSR) is an electrophysiological response to periodic stimuli that reflects the synchronization of endogenous oscillations. The 40-Hz ASSR is reduced in patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism spectrum disorder, making it a candidate biomarker for these psychiatric disorders. Previous studies have revealed that experimental conditions such as stimulus duration and inter-stimulus interval tend to affect ASSR, suggesting that novelty detection may play an important role in determining the magnitude of ASSR.

Cardiac damage after polytrauma: the role of systematic transthoracic echocardiography - a pilot study.

World J Emerg Surg

March 2025

Department of Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics, Goethe University Frankfurt, University Hospital, 60590, Frankfurt, Germany.

Background: Heart injuries following polytrauma (PT) are identified as a predictor of poor outcome. The diagnostic algorithm of cardiac damage after trauma consists of the systemic measurement of cardiac damage markers, a 3-channel ECG and if there are any suspicious findings, the conduction of a transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). The aim of this study was to implement a systematic analysis of cardiac function using TTE in PT-patients.

The sartorius muscle is typically innervated by two branches of the femoral nerve arising from the lumbar plexus. We present an unreported variant where the sartorius muscle was innervated by an accessory branch arising from the ilioinguinal nerve in addition to the proper two branches from the femoral nerve. The iliohypogastric nerve was fused with the ilioinguinal nerve.

PTSD poses significant suffering on the individual and can reduce quality of life substantially, however, its mechanisms are not fully understood. It has also been associated with gut abnormalities, such as with irritable bowel syndrome, indicating possible involvement of the gut microbiome and gut-brain axis.
