Unlabelled: LCN2 has an osteokine important for appetite regulation; in type 2 diabetes (T2D) it is not known whether appetite regulation mediated by LCN2 in the brain is altered. In this work, we focus on exploring the role of blocking LCN2 in metabolic health and appetite regulation within the central nervous system of mice with T2D.

Material And Methods: 4-week-old male C57BL/6 mice were used, divided into four experimental groups: intact, T2D, TD2/anti-LCN2, and T2D/IgG as isotype control.

Background: Methods for age estimation in children involve measurements of: (1) the projections of open apices and tooth heights (T), (2) the total area of the carpal bones and the epiphyses of the ulna and radius (HW), and (3) a combination of these parameters (THW). This study aimed to compare the accuracy of the original formulae for T, HW, and THW in Black South African (BSA) and White South African (WSA) samples of children and adolescents.

Materials And Methods: The sample comprised 556 subjects, 164 BSA (71 males and 93 females) and 392 WSA (171 males and 221 females) aged 6 to 16 years.

Leveraging Professional Radiologists' Expertise to Enhance LLMs' Evaluation for AI-generated Radiology Reports.

Proc (IEEE Int Conf Healthc Inform)

June 2024

National Center for Biotechnology Information, National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA.

In radiology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly advanced report generation, but automatic evaluation of these AI-produced reports remains challenging. Current metrics, such as Conventional Natural Language Generation (NLG) and Clinical Efficacy (CE), often fall short in capturing the semantic intricacies of clinical contexts or overemphasize clinical details, undermining report clarity. To overcome these issues, our proposed method synergizes the expertise of professional radiologists with Large Language Models (LLMs), like GPT-3.

Objective: Genetic Absence Epilepsy Rat from Strasbourg (GAERS), a rodent model genetically predisposed to absence epilepsy, serves as an experimental tool to elucidate the neuronal mechanisms underlying human absence epilepsy. This study aimed to investigate the morphological features of dendrites and dendritic spines of pyramidal neurons in somatosensory cortex and hippocampus of Wistar and GAERS rats.

Material And Method: Adult male GAERS (n = 5) and control Wistar (n = 5) rats were sacrificed by transcardial perfusion and brains were removed.

Purpose: To assess the effect of healthy and inflammatory conditions and the presence of F anions on the galvanic coupling between the root surface and titanium abutments of commercially available titanium implants MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eight pairs of three dental root-abutment couples (BEGO, MIS, NOBEL) were exposed to a neutral (pH=7.4) (HE) and an acidic (pH=4.0) (IN) phosphate buffer solution (PBS) simulating healthy and inflammatory conditions respectively.
