A hyperelastic torque-reversal mechanism for soft joints with compression-responsive transient bistability.

Snap-through, a rapid transition of a system from an equilibrium state to a nonadjacent equilibrium state, is a valuable design element of soft devices for converting a monolithic stimulus into systematic responses with impulsive motions. A common way to benefit from snap-through is to embody it within structures and materials, such as bistable structures. Torque-reversal mechanisms discovered in nature, which harness snap-through instability via muscular forces, may have comparative advantages.

Objective: This study assessed the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on cue reactivity and craving for game-related cues using event-related potentials (ERPs) in internet gaming disorder (IGD) patients.

Methods: At baseline, a series of game-related and neutral pictures were shown to both IGD and healthy controls (HCs) while ERPs were recorded. Late positive potentials (LPP) were used to investigate cue reactivity.

Air pollution has become a major challenge to global urban sustainable development, necessitating urgent solutions. Meteorological variables are key determinants of air quality; however, research on their impact across different urban gradients remains limited, and their mechanisms are largely unexplored. This study investigates the dynamic effects of meteorological variables on air quality under varying levels of urbanization using Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, as a case study.

Impulse Control in Parkinson's Disease: Distinct Effects between Action and Choice.

Neurosci Biobehav Rev

January 2025

School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, College of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Birmingham, Birmingham, UK; Department of Biological and Medical Psychology, University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway. Electronic address:

Aside from typical motor symptoms, impulse control issues related to engaging in actions or decision-making can manifest in Parkinson's disease (PD). The lack of direct comparisons between impulsive action and impulsive choice domains hinders a comprehensive understanding of impaired impulse control in this population. Therefore, the current review integrates findings across behavioural measures of impulsive action and choice in PD samples, both on and off dopaminergic medication.

: The aim of this work was to assess the effect of a conservative therapeutic intervention on the changes in the foot load distribution in people with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome practising long-distance running. : The study involved 44 men, aged 30 to 50 years, practising long-distance running. Two rounds of tests were conducted in the Laboratory of Biokinetics of the AWF in Kraków.
