Small doses of nondepolarizing relaxants are often recommended as prior medication to suxamethonium in order to avoid or attenuate the side effects elicited by the latter drug. After D-tubocurarine (0.05 mg/kg b.w. and 0.075 mg/kg b.w.) in unmedicated volunteers, a dose-dependent recession of the monocular near point of accomodation was recorded. This recession, which parallelled the decrease in grip strength, was 4 cm and 9 cm, respectively. The same doses evoked an exophoria of 14 and 17 prism diopters, respectively. Intraocular pressure was significantly lowered by D-tubocurarine 0.05 mg/kg b.w., from 2.01 kPa (15.1 mmHg) to 1.64 kPa (12.3 mmHg), and by pancuronium 0.015 mg/kg b.w. from 1.90 kPa (14.3 mmHg) to 1.44 kPa (10.8 mmHg). The decreases lasted for 7 min. Gallamine 0.3 mg/kg b.w. also decreased intraocular pressure, but to a lesser degree, and with statistical significance only during the fourth minute after administration. Relaxation of extraocular muscles may change the slightly ovoid shape of the eyeball into a more spherical one, thereby inducing a fall in intraocular pressure and a recession of the near point of accommodation.

Purpose: To evaluate the intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering effect and success rate of Paul glaucoma implant (PGI) in refractory glaucoma after changing practice pattern from Ahmed and Baerveldt tubes to PGI.
Methods: A prospective observational study of the first 50 consecutive PGI surgeries at a single Danish tertiary centre from January 2022 to October 2023. Primary endpoints were IOP and success rates after 12 months.

Objectives: The objective of the investigation is to examine the long term efficacy, safety, and predictability of ICL-V4c implantation for high and super-high myopic patients in order to provide reliable guidance for the selection of refractive surgical procedures.
Methods: We reviewed 125 eyes from 64 patients who implanted ICL-V4c at the Refractive Surgery Center of West China Hospital in Chengdu, China, between May 2015 and January 2017. These eyes were divided into two groups based on their preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) degree: high myopia (≥ -10D) and super-high myopia groups (< -10D).

The effect of the Rho-kinase inhibitor ripasudil on the retinal optic nerve fiber layer (RNFL) remains unclear. We aimed to determine this effect in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements and linear mixed analysis. This study prospectively included outpatients from a single center with POAG without a history of vitreoretinal or glaucoma surgery from December 2014 to June 2020, in whom the circumpapillary RNFL thickness (cpRNFLT) was measured more than three times before and after ripasudil initiation, without additional medication or surgery during the period.

To assess the efficacy of using a nylon suture as a stent in the PreserFlo MicroShunt (PMS) lumen to prevent postoperative hypotony, 59 eyes that underwent PMS implantation with follow-up for > 6 months were analyzed. Patients were divided into no intrastenting (NST) and intrastenting (ST) groups, with the ST group subdivided into 9 - 0 nylon suture fully placed (9 F), 9 - 0 nylon suture placement in only half of the lumen (9 H), 10 - 0 nylon suture fully placed (10 F), and 10 - 0 nylon suture placement in only half of the lumen (10 H). The distribution was as follows: 23 eyes in the NST group, 10 in the 9 F group, 9 in the 9 H group, 11 in the 10 F group, and 6 in the 10 H group.
