Our study presents an innovative approach to design built-in prefailure indicators within multiscale structural designs with optimized load carrying capabilities utilizing the design freedom of topology optimization. The indicators are engineered to visibly signal load conditions approaching the global critical buckling load at predefined locations.

Early repair of flexor tendon injuries is ideal, but delays are common. We studied the outcomes of flexor tendon repairs delayed from 5 days to 6 months and carried out under wide-awake local anaesthesia with no tourniquet (WALANT). Twenty-four patients (29 fingers) who underwent primary flexor tendon repair on zone II using a four- to six-strand core suture technique, followed by controlled early active motion therapy.

The impact of cognitive decline in older adults can be evaluated with dual-task gait (DTG) testing in which a cognitive task is performed during walking, leading to increased costs of gait. Previous research demonstrated that higher DTG costs correlate with increasing cognitive deficits and with age. The present study was conducted to explore whether the relationship between the DTG costs and cognitive abilities in older individuals is influenced by sex differences.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution and natural progression of ABCA4 deep intronic variants (DIVs) among a Chinese Stargardt disease (STGD) cohort.
Methods: For unsolved STGD probands, DIVs in ABCA4 were detected by next-generation sequencing, and splicing effects were evaluated by in silico tools and validated through minigene experiments. Comprehensive ocular examinations, especially fundus changes, were carried out and analyzed.
