: A 65-year-old male veteran presented to the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) emergency department with progressive fatigue, dyspnea on exertion, lightheadedness, and falls over the last month. New bilateral lower extremity numbness up to his knees developed in the week prior to admission and prompted him to seek care. Additional history included 2 episodes of transient loss of consciousness resulting in falls and a week of diarrhea, which had resolved.

Disseminated superficial porokeratosis (DSP) is a very uncommon dermatologic condition of unknown etiology, characterized by the clonal proliferation of atypical keratinocytes associated with aberrant keratinocyte differentiation. These lead to the development of the specific cornoid lamella that separates atypical from normal keratinocytes. DSP is most frequently encountered in immunosuppressed patients.

Background: Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is a leading indication for liver transplant (LT) in the United States. Rates of early liver transplant (ELT) with less than 6 months of sobriety have increased substantially. Patients who receive ELT commonly have alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) and are often too ill to complete an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for alcohol use disorder (AUD) prior to LT.

Background: There may be an interaction between viral hepatitis and psychiatric disorders during disease progression. Herein, we conducted Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore the causal associations and mediators between viral hepatitis and psychiatric disorders.
Methods: Genome-wide association studies summary data for viral hepatitis [including chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and chronic hepatitis C (CHC)] and psychiatric disorders (including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder) were obtained.
