This prospective observational study aimed to compare abdominal hysterectomy (AH), vaginal hysterectomy (VH), and total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) in terms of oxidative stress (OS) by measuring serum levels of total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), and oxidative stress index (OSI). Of the 3 groups, namely, AH, VH, and TLH, 22 patients were enrolled in each to investigate the aim of the study mentioned above. Patient demographics, clinical and surgical characteristics, and preoperative and postoperative (0th and 24th hours) serum TAS, TOS, and OSI levels were investigated.

Patients experience recurrent seizures and chronic cognitive deficits that can impact their quality of life, ability to work, and independence. Objective: Smartphones and wearable devices can be effective tools to objectively assess patient mobility and well-being before and after spine surgery. In this retrospective observational study, the authors investigated the relationship between these longitudinal perioperative patient activity data and socioeconomic and demographic correlates, assessing whether smartphone-captured metrics may allow neurosurgeons to distinguish intergroup patterns.
Methods: A multi-institutional retrospective study of patients who underwent spinal decompression with and without fusion between 2017 and 2021 was conducted.

Recent advances in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) come from studies investigating younger (age<60 years) adults or older (age≥75 years) or less fit adults. Uncertainty exists for the management of otherwise healthy adults with AML in their 60s and 70s, which also represents a significant proportion of AML cases. We discuss current considerations in older, fit adults with AML including determination of fitness, what factors beyond fitness should be assessed, and finally what challenges and innovations lie ahead to improve outcomes for these patients.
