A secreted beta-galactosidase gene from P. canescens was cloned using synthetic oligonucleotide probes and its nucleotide sequence was partially determined. The gene was shown to be present in the genome as a single copy. The deduced primary structure of the signal peptide and the first 25 amino acid residues of the mature protein was established. The structure analysis of the beta-galactosidase gene revealed at least one short intron 64 bp long. The transcription start point was found to be located 89 bp upstream the initiation codon. Some peculiarities of the signal peptide cleavage mechanism are discussed.

Autophagy, a cellular degradation process involving the formation and clearance of autophagosomes, is mediated by autophagic proteins, such as microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) and sequestosome 1 (p62), and modulated by 3-methyladenine (3-MA) as well as chloroquine (CQ). Senescence, characterised by permanent cell cycle arrest, is marked by proteins such as cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1 (p21) and tumour protein 53 (p53). This study aims to investigate the relationship between cell senescence and renal function in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and the effect of autophagy on high-glucose-induced cell senescence.

Background: Resistance to existing therapies is a major cause of treatment failure in patients with refractory and relapsed B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (r/r B-NHL). Therapy-induced senescence (TIS) is one of the most important mechanisms of drug resistance.
Methods: This study used single-cell RNA sequencing to analyze doxorubicin-induced senescent B-NHL cells.

Cold-adapted microorganisms possess cold-active enzymes with potential applications in different industries and research areas. In this study, two genes encoding β-d-galactosidases belonging to Glycoside Hydrolase families 2 and 42 from the psychrotolerant Arctic bacterium sp. S3* were cloned, expressed in and , purified and characterized.

Chronic stress is associated with a higher risk for carcinogenesis as well as age-related diseases and immune dysfunction. There is evidence showing that psychological stress can contribute to premature immunosenescence. Therefore, the question arose whether chronic exposure to catecholamine could drive immune cells into senescence.

Intravascular hemolysis releases hemoglobin (Hb) from red blood cells under specific conditions, yet the effect of hemolysis in aquaculture systems remain poorly understood. In this study, a continuous hemolysis model for grass carp was established by injection of phenylhydrazine (PHZ) to investigate the mechanistic impacts of sustained hemolysis. PHZ-induced hemolysis altered liver color, and subsequent hematoxylin and eosin staining revealed substantial Hb accumulation in the head kidney, accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration and vacuolization in liver tissue.
