Background: Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) comprise 15%-20% of all ovarian epithelial malignancies. The majority of them are serous tumors followed by mucinous tumors. Pre-operative cytological diagnosis plays an important role with histopathology being the gold standard.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Ovary: A Rare Case.

Cureus

November 2024

2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology Unit, Ippokrateio General Hospital of Thessaloniki, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, GRC.

Ovarian squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare entity among primary ovarian cancers. This type of cancer typically originates from the transformation of mature cystic teratomas, commonly known as dermoid cysts, and occasionally from associations with endometriosis or Brenner's tumors. Middle ear biofilm and sudden deafness - a light and transmission electron microscopy study.

Front Neurol

December 2024

Department of Surgical Sciences, Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden.

Background: There still exists controversy about whether the healthy human middle ear mucosa is sterile or if it may harbor a diverse microbiome. Considering the delicacy of the human round window membrane (RWM), different mechanisms may exist for avoiding inner ear pathogen invasion causing sensorineural deafness. We re-analyzed archival human RWMs using light and transmission electron microscopy after decalcification to determine if bacteria are present in clinically normal human middle ears.

LPCAT3 regulates the proliferation and metastasis of serous ovarian cancer by modulating arachidonic acid.

Transl Oncol

December 2024

Laboratory of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China. Electronic address:

Background: Lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 3 (LPCAT3) promotes ferroptosis through the incorporating polyunsaturated fatty acids into membrane phospholipids, however, its role in serous ovarian cancer remains unclear. Here explored cancer proliferation and metastasis after modulating LPCAP3.

Methods: LPCAT3 protein in ovarian cancer tissues was detected using bioinformatic and immunohistoche mical assays.
