Background Apropos estimation of postmortem interval is an important and difficult task for forensic pathologists. In routine practice, postmortem interval is deduced by conventional or physical methods such as early and late postmortem changes, which are subjective methods and prone to errors. Estimating time since death by thanatochemistry is a more objective method as compared to routine conventional or physical methods.

Presence of the toxic metalloid, "arsenic (As)" is ubiquitous in the environment especially in the soil and water. Its excess availability in the soil retards growth and metabolism of plants via (a) slowing down the cell division/elongation, (b) overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), (c) modulation of antioxidant enzymes, and (d) alteration of DNA profile/genomic template stability (GTS). In the current study, diphenylene iodonium (DPI), 24-epibrassinolide (EBL) and proline (Pro) were used to analyze their roles in eliminating the adverse effects of As.

Several lines of evidence indicate the existence of salty liquid water below the icy surface of the satellite Europa. Depending on the chemical composition of the original interior brines, minerals that precipitate will be varied as will be the resulting physicochemical parameters of the evolving solutions such as pH and salinity. These parameters are determinants apropos to the study of the possible habitability of the satellite.

We present a case of Gitelman's Syndrome in a 20 year-old woman who came to our service with weakness, asthenia, leg cramps and tetany. Laboratory studies revealed metabolic alkalosis with hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia and low calcium in a 24-hour urine test. The diagnosis of this syndrome is made in some cases during adult life because this syndrome is asymptomatic over several years.

The "inositol depletion hypothesis" has been widely held to be the explanation for both the effect of lithium on brain function, apropos of its use in mood disorders, and on the impairment of development and induction of embryonic malformations in diverse organisms. The essence of the hypothesis is that a deficiency in cellular myo-inositol (Ins), secondary to lithium inhibition of inositol monophosphatase and/or multiple inositol polyphosphate phosphatase activities with trapping of Ins as inositol phosphates, leads to a depression of phosphatidylinositol (PtdIns) and a secondary impairment in inositide signaling. However, the ability of relatively low micromolar levels of Ins to reduce mammalian PtdIns synthetase activity in vivo has never been adequately tested.
