Molecular Mechanisms of Nicergoline from Ergot Fungus in Blocking Human 5-HT3A Receptor.

J Microbiol Biotechnol

November 2024

Department of Biotechnology and Department of Integrative Food, Bioscience and Biotechnology (BK21 FOUR), Chonnam National University, Gwangju 61186, Republic of Korea.

This study investigates the modulatory effects of nicergoline, a major bioactive compound derived from ergot fungus, on the 5-hydroxytryptamine 3A (5-HT3A) receptor. Utilizing a two-electrode voltage-clamp technique, we evaluated the impact of nicergoline on the 5-HT-induced inward current (I) in 5-HT3A receptors. Our findings reveal that nicergoline inhibits I in a reversible and concentration-dependent manner.

Comparing Effects of Aromatherapy with Five Herbs Essential Oils on PCPA-induced Insomnia Mice.

J Microbiol Biotechnol

November 2024

Hua An Tang Biotech Group Co., Ltd., Guangzhou 510000, P.R. China.

Delayed treatment of insomnia-related symptoms can harm physical health and increase the psychological burden. In addition to oral medications and some physical therapies, aromatherapy can help overcome some treatment-related side effects. Herein, parachlorophenylalanine (PCPA)-induced insomnia was established in Kunming (KM) mice, which were subjected to aromatherapy using five plants (, , , , and ) essential oils (EOs).

Cost-benefit tradeoff mediates the transition from rule-based to memory-based processing during practice.

PLoS Biol

January 2025

Cognitive Control Collaborative, University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, United States of America.

Practice not only improves task performance but also changes task execution from rule- to memory-based processing by incorporating experiences from practice. However, how and when this change occurs is unclear. We test the hypothesis that strategy transitions in task learning can result from decision-making guided by cost-benefit analysis.

The ability to extinguish contextual fear in a changing environment is crucial for animal survival. Recent data support the role of the thalamic nucleus reuniens (RE) and its projections to the dorsal hippocampal CA1 area (RE→dCA1) in this process. However, it remains poorly understood how RE impacts dCA1 neurons during contextual fear extinction (CFE).

Background: Acute psychological stress may induce physiological changes predisposing individuals to adverse health outcomes through hemodynamic and vascular effects. We studied the association between the aggregated stress-induced changes in hemodynamic and vascular function tests with adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease, after adjusting for sociodemographic and clinical factors.

Methods And Results: Individuals with stable coronary artery disease from 2 prospective cohort studies were studied.
