Introduction: The polyspermy rate is a quality control indicator in the embryology laboratory, and factors affecting polyspermy are of great interest. The gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist protocol is currently the mainstream protocol in most reproductive centers. This study explored the factors influencing polyspermy in fertilization (IVF) using the GnRH antagonist protocol and considered corresponding improvement measures.

Medical therapy to treat obesity and optimize fertility in women of reproductive age: a narrative review.

Reprod Biol Endocrinol

January 2025

Departments of Internal Medicine and Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, Yale School of Medicine, 330 Cedar St, New Haven, CT, 06510, USA.

Background: Overweight and obesity-chronic illnesses in which an increase in body fat promotes adipose tissue dysfunction and abnormal fat mass resulting in adverse metabolic, biomechanical, and psychosocial health consequences-negatively impact female fertility. Adverse conception outcomes are multifactorial, ranging from poor oocyte quality and implantation issues to miscarriages and fetal health issues. However, with the advent of novel pharmacologic agents, significant weight loss can be achieved, improving the chances of healthy pregnancies, and their use should be considered during periconceptual counseling.

Aim: This study aims to assess the impacts of various trigger day progesterone (P) and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels on live birth rates (LBRs) in fresh in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles, considering their elevation from stimulation and premature luteinization.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included the first ovarian stimulation cycles with GnRH antagonist protocol of 1253 patients who underwent intracytoplasmic sperm injection and fresh embryo transfer at a tertiary clinic's IVF center between 2010 and 2016. Participants were divided into four groups based on trigger day serum P and LH levels, using the 90th percentile thresholds for P (1.

Class III peroxidases (PRXs) play critical roles in plant growth and development by oxidizing various substrates with HO. Although many PRXs have been identified and their roles in biotic and abiotic stress responses have extensively investigated in plants. However, functional mechanisms of PRXs in seed development remain poorly understood.

Aging Oocytes: Exploring Apoptosis and Its Impact on Embryonic Development in Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio).

Article Synopsis
  • Ovulation, fertilization, and embryo development are critical processes whose success is compromised by post-ovulatory aging, leading to reduced oocyte quality and fertilization ability.
  • The study focused on common carp and found that oocyte aging significantly triggers apoptosis, particularly noticeable after 48 hours post-stripping, with increased levels of pro-apoptotic genes and active caspase 3 enzyme.
  • Although early blastula embryos (5 HPF) from both fresh and aged oocytes showed no signs of apoptosis, the embryos from aged oocytes at 24 HPF displayed heightened apoptosis, indicating a time-dependent effect of oocyte aging on embryonic development.
