Background: The development of evidence-based practitioners is an expectation of entry-level physical therapist education. Knowledge translation is a process to enhance the uptake of evidence into clinical practice. Student run pro bono clinics provide an authentic learning environment in which knowledge translation activities can be used to implement clinical practice guidelines (CPGs).

Novel Antibacterial 4-Piperazinylquinoline Hybrid Derivatives Against : Design, Synthesis, and In Vitro and In Silico Insights.

Molecules

December 2024

Department of Biological, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies (STEBICEF), University of Palermo, Viale delle Scienze, 90128 Palermo, Italy.

Molecular hybridization, which consists of the combination of two or more pharmacophores into a single molecule, is an innovative approach in drug design to afford new chemical entities with enhanced biological activity. In the present study, this strategy was pursued to develop a new series of 6,7-dimethoxy-4-piperazinylquinoline-3-carbonitrile derivatives (-) with potential antibiotic activity by combining the quinoline, the piperazinyl, and the benzoylamino moieties, three recurrent frameworks in antimicrobial research. Initial in silico evaluations were conducted on the designed compounds, highlighting favorable ADMET and drug-likeness properties, which were synthesized through a multistep strategy, isolated, and fully characterized.

In Silico Design of Dual Estrogen Receptor and Hsp90 Inhibitors for ER-Positive Breast Cancer Through a Mixed Ligand/Structure-Based Approach.

Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie Biologiche Chimiche e Farmaceutiche "STEBICEF", University of Palermo, Viale delle Scienze, Ed. 17, 90128 Palermo, Italy.

Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent and lethal malignancies in women, particularly the estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) subtype, which accounts for approximately 70% of cases. Traditional endocrine therapies, including aromatase inhibitors, selective estrogen receptor degraders/antagonists (SERDs), and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), have improved outcomes for metastatic ER+ breast cancer. However, resistance to these agents presents a significant challenge.

Comparative analyses of persistence traits in O157:H7 strains belonging to different clades including REPEXH01 and REPEXH02 strains.

Front Microbiol

December 2024

Meat Safety and Quality Research Unit, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Meat Animal Research Center, Clay Center, NE, United States.

Recent application of whole genome sequencing in the investigation of foodborne illness outbreaks has facilitated the identification of Reoccurring, Emerging, or Persistent (REP) bacterial strains that have caused illnesses over extended periods of time. Here, the complete genomes of two O157:H7 (EcO157) outbreak strains belonging to REPEXH01 and REPEXH02, respectively, were sequenced and annotated. Comparative genomics and phenotypic analyses were carried out to identify REP-associated traits.

Background: Diarrhoeal diseases claim more than 1 million lives annually and are a leading cause of death in children younger than 5 years. Comprehensive global estimates of the diarrhoeal disease burden for specific age groups of children younger than 5 years are scarce, and the burden in children older than 5 years and in adults is also understudied. We used results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to assess the burden of, and trends in, diarrhoeal diseases overall and attributable to 13 pathogens, as well as the contributions of associated risk factors, in children and adults in 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021.
