To develop a method leveraging hospital-based surveillance to estimate influenza-related hospitalizations by state, age, and month as a means of enhancing current US influenza burden estimation efforts. Using data from the Influenza Hospitalization Surveillance Network (FluSurv-NET), we extrapolated monthly FluSurv-NET hospitalization rates after adjusting for testing practices and diagnostic test sensitivities to non-FluSurv-NET states. We used a Poisson zero-inflated model with an overdispersion parameter within the Bayesian hierarchical framework and accounted for uncertainty and variability between states and across time.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionised cancer therapy, yet they carry a unique spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Given the ageing global population and the underrepresentation of older adults in clinical trials for ICIs, we investigated the occurrence and characteristics of irAEs in older versus younger adults as well as among different age subsets within the older adult population.
Methods: We analysed the U.
Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are expanded in cancer patients, have an intrinsic immunosuppressive function, and thus may play a role in resistance to immunotherapy. Ulceration of the melanoma primary is associated with more aggressive disease and is an independent prognostic factor for melanoma-specific survival. However, the underlying factors contributing to this more aggressive phenotype are not completely understood.

Background: Previously, we demonstrated that changes in circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) are promising biomarkers for early response prediction (ERP) to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in metastatic urothelial cancer (mUC). In this study, we investigated the value of whole blood immunotranscriptomics for ERP-ICI and integrated both biomarkers into a multimodal model to boost accuracy.
Methods: Blood samples of 93 patients were collected at baseline and after 2-6 weeks of ICI for ctDNA (N=88) and immunotranscriptome (N=79) analyses.

Age-related lung function decline is associated with small airway closure and gas trapping. The mechanisms which cause these changes are not fully understood. It has been suggested that COPD is caused by accelerated ageing.
