Midline anterior atlas clefts: CT findings.

J Comput Assist Tomogr

Published: December 1992

Anterior atlas clefts (AACs) are rare developmental variants that may mimic fractures. Due to the potential severe implications of craniocervical junction trauma, expeditious differentiation between a Jefferson burst fracture and a congenital cleft is essential in trauma patients. Three cases of AAC are presented. Two cases demonstrated incidental AACs; the third case was associated with a Jefferson burst injury. Computed tomography is most helpful in evaluating the integrity of the atlas; however, plain radiography or pluridirectional tomography are best for evaluating displacement of the lateral masses of C1 in relation to C2.

Unlabelled: Early skill learning develops in the context of activity changes in distributed cortico-subcortical regions. Here, we investigated network hubs-centers of information integration and transmission-within the brain network supporting early skill learning. We recorded magnetoencephalographic (MEG) brain activity in healthy human subjects who learned a moderately difficult sequence skill with their non-dominant left hand.

Automated craniofacial biometry with 3D T2w fetal MRI.

Department of Early Life Imaging, School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences, King's College London, St Thomas' Hospital, London, United Kingdom.

Objectives: Evaluating craniofacial phenotype-genotype correlations prenatally is increasingly important; however, it is subjective and challenging with 3D ultrasound. We developed an automated label propagation pipeline using 3D motion- corrected, slice-to-volume reconstructed (SVR) fetal MRI for craniofacial measurements.

Methods: A literature review and expert consensus identified 31 craniofacial biometrics for fetal MRI.

Among contributors to diffusible signaling are portal systems which join two capillary beds through connecting veins. Portal systems allow diffusible signals to be transported in high concentrations directly from one capillary bed to the other without dilution in the systemic circulation. Two portal systems have been identified in the brain.

Purpose: To investigate if hip and knee alignment assessed 2 years after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is associated with compartment-specific radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA) 3 years later.

Methods: An exploratory analysis was conducted in the knee ACL, nonsurgical versus surgical treatment (KANON) trial (ISRCTN84752559); 115 subjects with acute ACL injury were assessed at the 2-year follow-up; full-limb images of the injured leg were acquired, and the neck-shaft angle (NSA) and hip-knee-ankle angle (HKA) were measured. At the 5-year follow-up, weight-bearing tibiofemoral and patellofemoral radiographs were obtained.

Purpose: Radiotherapy is a crucial part of breast cancer treatment. Precision in dose assessment is essential to minimize side effects. Traditionally, anatomical structures are delineated manually, a time-consuming process subject to variability.
