Tolerance Factor Approach for the Design of Quaternary Materials as Applied to the ALnCuQ Homologous Series.

J Am Chem Soc

September 2024

Institute for Quantum Matter, William H. Miller III Department of Physics and Astronomy, Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21218, United States of America.

The design of novel quaternary materials can be a chemically challenging endeavor. Here, we show that a new tolerance factor, we herein call the quaternary tolerance factor (QTF), akin to the Goldschmidt ratio, can be applied to a homologous series of quaternary materials to aid in the prediction of structural stability in new phases. Single crystals of nine new members of the CuQ homologous series were synthesized ( = K, Rb, Cs, = Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Er, Yb, Lu, = S, Se) for = 1, 2, and 3 using a reactive KCl flux method as the sole potassium source.

Context: Investigating the co-occurrence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and primary aldosteronism (PA) is crucial for understanding their interrelation.

Objective: This work aimed to evaluate the prevalence of OSA in individuals diagnosed with PA and to assess the prevalence of PA within the OSA population, with a specific focus on hypertensive individuals.

Methods: An exhaustive search was performed across PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, and Web of Science up to September 2023, without restrictions on language or publication date.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the correlation between serum potassium (K) concentration upon admission and the presence of the Island Sign (IS) in cranial CT scans of patients diagnosed with Hypertensive Intracerebral Hemorrhage (HICH), including the potential presence of a non-linear relationship.

Methods: This investigation constituted a single-center cross-sectional study. We systematically gathered comprehensive general clinical characteristics, biological indicators, and imaging data from a cohort of 330 patients diagnosed with HICH.

Nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics are two interrelated fields that explore the influence of genetic diversity on nutrient responses and function. While nutrigenetics investigates the effects of hereditary ge-netic variations on micronutrient metabolism, nutrigenomics examines the intricate relationship between diet and the genome, studying how genetic variants impact nutrient intake and gene expression. These disciplines offer valuable insights into predicting and managing chronic diseases through personalized nutritional approaches.
