Radon is a carcinogenic gas that cannot be detected by the five senses and poses a significant health threat, particularly in the form of lung cancer, to individuals living in all enclosed buildings worldwide. The aims of this study are to (1) measure Indoor Radon Concentrations (IRCs) in 117 buildings in İzmir, Turkey, (2) investigate and model the relationship between the IRCs and Geological Units (GUs) and Active Faults (AFs), and (3) compare the IRC values with the European Indoor Radon Reference Level (EIRRL) (200 Bq/m³) to identify areas that pose a potential health risk for lung cancer due to elevated Indoor Radon Levels (IRLs). The IRCs were measured using Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs) in 117 buildings.

Characterization and commissioning of a new collaborative multi-modality radiotherapy platform.

TaiChi, a new multi-modality radiotherapy platform that integrates a linear accelerator, a focusing gamma system, and a kV imaging system within an enclosed O-ring gantry, was introduced into clinical application. This work aims to assess the technological characteristics and commissioning results of the TaiChi platform. The acceptance testing and commissioning were performed following the manufacturer's customer acceptance tests (CAT) and several AAPM Task Group (TG) reports/guidelines.

Background: Dosimetry software tools developed for Radiopharmaceutical Therapy, such as OLINDA/EXM or IDAC-Dose, account only for radiation dose to organs from radiopharmaceutical taken up in other organs.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to present a methodology, that can be applied to any voxelised computational model, able to account for cross-dose to organs from tumors of any shape and number enclosed within an organ.

Methods: A Geant4 application using hybrid analytical/voxelised geometries has been developed as an extension to the ICRP110_HumanPhantom Geant4 advanced example and validated against ICRP publication 133.

In-depth study of radon in water in a Greek village with enhanced radon concentrations.

This study focused on the radon transfer from the water to the air and the subsequent impact of waterborne radon indoors, taking advantage of the enhanced and decreasing from year to year radon-in-water concentrations observed in the Arnea village in Northern Greece. Some other essential aspects and observations regarding radon-in-water were also discussed. Concerning radon transfer from water to the air, the transfer efficiencies for showering and the use of the bathroom tap were estimated by measuring the radon-in-water and the waterborne radon-in-air concentrations in sealed bathrooms of two apartments in Arnea.
