Background: The present study is a systematic review and meta-analysis aiming to investigate the effects of alcohol consumption on male sex hormones in humans.

Methods: We conducted searches on PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar from June 2020 to June 2022. We included observational studies (cohorts, case-controls, and cross-sectional studies) comparing FSH, LH, or testosterone levels in alcohol consumers versus non-consumers.

Background: There is limited knowledge of the long-term effects on the immune system after treatment for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

Methods: This study included DLBCL patients from the Danish Lymphoma Registry who obtained complete remission (CR) after (R)-CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisolone)-like immunochemotherapy. Each R CHOP-like treated patient was matched to five comparators from the Danish background population and furthermore compared to R CHOP-like treated patients.

A 65-year-old patient presented with recurrent, locally advanced poorly differentiated thyroid cancer despite 2 neck surgeries, and with newly diagnosed brain and skull base metastases. He was treated with palliative stereotactic radiosurgery to the brain and skull base lesions. Thereafter, as no targetable genetic alteration was identified and antiangiogenic multikinase inhibitors were deemed at high risk of hemorrhagic complications, off-label systemic therapies were considered.

Mechanisms of Low Temperature-Induced Growth Hormone Resistance via TRPA1 Channel Activation in Male Nile Tilapia.

Endocrinology

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Bio-resources and Eco-environment of the Ministry of Education, College of Life Sciences, 610065, Sichuan University, Chengdu, P.R. China.

Low temperatures significantly impact growth in ectothermic vertebrates, though the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study investigates the role of transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channels in mediating low temperature effects on growth performance and growth hormone (GH) resistance in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Prolonged exposure to low temperature (16°C for 35 days) impaired growth performance and induced GH resistance, characterized by elevated serum GH levels and decreased insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels.

Evaluation of natural polysaccharides from edible mushrooms for the treatment of male testicular injury caused by X-ray.

J Food Sci

January 2025

Engineering Research Center of Edible and Medicinal Fungi of Ministry of Education, Jilin Agricultural University, Changchun, Jilin, China.

Radiation exposure can lead to reproductive damage (RD), for which there is currently no effective treatment. Natural compounds, particularly fungal polysaccharides, have shown promising therapeutic potential for RD. Due to limited availability of effective polysaccharides, research has turned to alternative sources from edible mushrooms.
