Article Synopsis
  • Children with sickle cell anaemia (SCA) experience worse health-related quality of life (HRQoL) compared to healthy children, especially in physical, emotional, and social aspects.
  • The study, involving 130 children aged 5-15 in The Gambia, found that many SCA patients had poor HRQoL scores, with 57.7% rated as poor.
  • Significant factors like frequent pain experiences, late diagnosis, and clinical stroke were linked to lower HRQoL, highlighting the need for better management and support for children with SCA.

Article Synopsis
  • Tuberculides are immune reactions to tuberculosis that occur in healthy individuals, and this study focuses on their characteristics and treatment responses in a North Indian healthcare center.
  • Analyzing clinical records from 2000 to 2019, the study identified 34 patients with tuberculides, with lichen scrofulosorum being the most prevalent type, followed by other forms like erythema nodosum.
  • The findings highlight that tuberculides can indicate hidden tuberculosis infections, aiding in early diagnosis and effective treatment with a standard six-month anti-tubercular therapy regimen.

Background: Multiple myeloma (MM) results from clonal expansion of immunoglobulin secreting, heavy chain class-switched, terminally differentiated B-lymphocytes (plasma cells), resulting in radiologic or biochemical evidence of end-organ damage. Though neurological manifestations (peripheral neuropathies, spinal radiculopathies, cranial nerve palsies, and metabolic encephalopathies) can occur during the disease course, direct central nervous system (CNS) infiltration by malignant plasma cells (CNS-MM) is very rare (~1%) and has a dismal prognosis (survival of <6 months).

Methodology: Clinico-laboratory profile and outcome of CNS-MM patients diagnosed and treated at a tertiary cancer care hospital were retrospectively analyzed.
