We investigated the effects of exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) on grain filling, starch accumulation, and endogenous hormones in maize (both the heat-tolerant maize variety Zhengdan 958 (ZD958) and the heat-sensitive variety Xianyu 335 (XY335)) under early post-anthesis high temperature stress by simulating high temperature stress for a period of 6 to 12 days post-anthesis in 2022 and 2023. There were three treatments: spraying water at ambient temperature as the control, spraying water at high temperature, and spraying ABA at high temperature. The results showed that early post-anthesis high temperature stress resulted in a significant reduction in grain weight and yield in maize, with XY335 showing a greater reduction than ZD958.

A dwarf mutant with short branches (csdf) was identified from EMS-induced mutagenesis. Bulked segregant analysis sequencing and map-based cloning revealed CsKAO encoding ent-kaurenoic acid oxidase as the causal gene. Plant architecture is the primary target of artificial selection during domestication and improvement based on the determinate function for fruit yield.

Drought is a persistent and serious threat to crop yield and quality. The identification and functional characterization of drought tolerance-related genes is thus vital for efforts to support the genetic improvement of drought-tolerant crops. Barley is highly adaptable and renowned for its robust stress resistance, making it an ideal subject for efforts to explore genes related to drought tolerance.

Land plants use diverse hormones to coordinate their growth, development and responses against biotic and abiotic stresses. Salicylic acid (SA) is an essential hormone in plant immunity, with its levels and signaling tightly regulated to ensure a balanced immune output. Over the past three decades, molecular genetic analyses performed primarily in Arabidopsis have elucidated the biosynthesis and signal transduction pathways of key plant hormones, including abscisic acid, jasmonic acid, ethylene, auxin, cytokinin, brassinosteroids, and gibberellin.

Hormones are effective in regulating plant metabolism and, therefore, are often used in plant cell culture to increase the yield of target products. This study investigated the effects of hormones on the growth and anthocyanin biosynthesis of suspension-cultured red Cyclocarya paliurus cells. Additionally, the mechanism by which gibberellin induces anthocyanin biosynthesis was explored through multi-omics integrated analysis and the assay of the dynamic changes in signaling molecule concentration.
