Type 2 cytokine-JAK1 signaling is involved in the development of dry skin-induced mechanical alloknesis.

Background: Mechanical alloknesis (m-alloknesis) is itch hypersensitivity induced by normally innocuous stimuli. It is sometimes observed in dry skin based itch-related diseases such as atopic dermatitis (AD), and often triggers the vicious itch-scratch cycle. The acetone-ether and water (AEW) mouse model mimics dry skin-induced m-alloknesis, yet its underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Background: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is an important cancer diagnostic staging procedure. Conventional SLNB procedures with Tc radiotracers and scintigraphy are constrained by tracer half-life and, in some cases, insufficient image resolution. Here, we explore an alternative magnetic (nonradioactive) image-guided SLNB procedure.

Article Synopsis
  • FA2 tactile afferents, associated with Pacinian corpuscles, are specialized for detecting high-frequency vibrations, unlike other afferents that focus on lower frequencies.
  • In this study, researchers used methods to block local tactile input and tested how well FA2 afferents could still perceive flutter-range frequencies (~20 Hz) on different skin types.
  • Findings showed that even when local receptors were blocked, the perception of flutter-range frequencies remained consistent, indicating that FA2-PC systems can encode this type of frequency without relying on inputs from low-frequency receptors.

Therapeutic Dose of Zinc Aspartate and Zinc Citrate Attenuates Disease Activity Indices in Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Biol Trace Elem Res

November 2024

Heavy Metal and Preventive Toxicology Lab, Department of Toxicology, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, 110062, India.

Zinc aspartate and zinc citrate have been used as zinc supplements in different health conditions. Taking into consideration their anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-oxidant and antimicrobial properties, the present study has been designed to analyse the effect of zinc aspartate and zinc citrate treatment at therapeutic dose level on disease severity index, haematological, serological, antimicrobial and radiological markers of rheumatoid arthritis in Wistar rats. Bactericidal potential of the two organic zinc compounds was analysed in vitro in clinically isolated Escherichia coli.
