Purpose To assess the predictive value of left atrial (LA) fast long-axis strain derived from cardiac MRI for thrombotic events (TEs) in individuals with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Materials and Methods This secondary analysis of an ongoing prospective trial (Chinese Clinical Trial Registry: ChiCTR1900024094) included consecutive participants with HCM without atrial fibrillation (AF) who underwent cardiac MRI from January 2012 to December 2020. The LA fast long-axis strain was obtained by semiautomatically tracking the distance between the atrioventricular junction and the midposterior LA wall.

Comfort is a central aspect of palliative care, encompassing the management of pain and symptoms, as well as how people feel and experience care. Comfort has been argued to be especially tenuous or transient in palliative care, as a constantly shifting set of bodily sensations and relations are anticipated and cared for. In this article, drawing on in-depth interviews and photo elicitation, we explore the accounts of patients, family carers, staff and volunteers from a palliative care service in Australia, to understand how care is configured and facilitated through everyday gestures of comfort.

Introduction: Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is a potent immunomodulatory cytokine widely explored as a therapeutic agent for diseases, including myocardial infarction (MI). High-dose IL-10 treatment may not achieve expected outcomes, raising the question of whether IL-10 has dose-dependency, or even uncharted side-effects from overdosing. We hypothesized that IL-10 has dose-dependent effects on macrophage (Mφ) phenotypic transition and cardiac remodeling after MI.

A woman in her early 60s presented with multiple transient neurological symptoms over the course of 20 months, including transient loss of power to her right lower limb. Initial workup with CT brain scan, carotid dopplers and ECG revealed no abnormality; however, MRI of the brain suggested recent ischaemic events in separate cortical territories. Subsequent transoesophageal echocardiogram revealed a large mobile mass histologically confirmed to be an atrial myxoma.

Background And Aims: The prevalence of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease has increased in parallel with a rise in consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF), but little is known about their association.
Methods: We cross-sectionally examined associations of UPF with hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in 2,458 (mean age 54 years; 55.9% women) community-dwelling adults who completed vibration-controlled transient elastography and a food frequency questionnaire.
