This study aimed to develop patches containing quercetin-loaded microcapsules and to evaluate their in vitro and in vivo safety and efficacy in preclinical surveys. A set of in vitro experiments evidenced the virucidal activity of quercetin against the HSV-1-KOS (sensitive to acyclovir) and HSV-1-AR (resistant to acyclovir) strains, with improved outcomes upon the first. The patches presented a homogeneous aspect, were easily handled, had a suitable bioadhesion, and possessed mechanical properties of soft and weak material, besides a pH compatible with human skin.

Study Objectives: Lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] is a biomarker of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, but its role in mental disorders is controversial. Our study aimed to explore the causality between Lp(a) levels and mental disorders by combining retrospective and Mendelian randomization (MR) studies.

Methods: All genome-wide association study datasets used in the MR study were obtained from UK Biobank, FinnGen, and the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium.

Weakly-supervised thyroid ultrasound segmentation: Leveraging multi-scale consistency, contextual features, and bounding box supervision for accurate target delineation.

Weakly-supervised learning (WSL) methods have gained significant attention in medical image segmentation, but they often face challenges in accurately delineating boundaries due to overfitting to weak annotations such as bounding boxes. This issue is particularly pronounced in thyroid ultrasound images, where low contrast and noisy backgrounds hinder precise segmentation. In this paper, we propose a novel weakly-supervised segmentation framework that addresses these challenges.

Two undescribed oxazole-containing diterpenoids (1-2) and a new diterpenoid (3) were isolated from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Their structures were elucidated by extensive HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute configurations of 1 and 3 were confirmed by comparison of the calculated and experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Compound 1 represents the first example of an abietane diterpenoid with a benzo[d]oxazole unit fused in the ring B of the abietane skeleton.

Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) is a widely produced bio-based polymer known for its biodegradability and renewability, but its brittleness, low heat resistance, and weak mechanical properties limit its broader use. To address these challenges, TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCNF) were extracted from dissolving pulp using TEMPO oxidation and high-pressure homogenization. These TOCNF were modified with silane to reduce hydrophilicity and improve compatibility with PLA.
