Predicting complete concentric collapse at the palatal level during drug-induced sleep endoscopy: an analysis of 1761 cases.

Sleep Breath

November 2024

Department of Otorhinolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, OLVG, Jan Tooropstraat 164, Amsterdam, 1061AE, The Netherlands.

Purpose: Drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) helps select patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for surgery by identifying upper airway collapse patterns. This study aimed to predict the probability of complete concentric collapse at the palatal level (CCCp) during DISE based on patient characteristics, specifically body mass index (BMI).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed records of OSA patients who underwent DISE from January 2018 to July 2023.

Introduction: Cell-free and concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is frequently used to relieve the symptoms caused by massive ascites due to peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer, especially in the later stages of its clinical course. Irinotecan (CPT-11) is recommended for third- or later-line chemotherapy according to gastric cancer treatment guidelines. However, the concentrations of anti-cancer drugs in the ascites and the product of CART are not well known, it is considered that some amounts of anti-cancer drugs contained in the product of CART may be readministered and induce severe adverse reactions.

Background: Māori are less likely to survive their lung cancer once diagnosed, but it remains unclear whether this is partially driven by poorer access to best-practice diagnostic services.

Methods: We examined all lung cancer registrations in Aotearoa New Zealand between 2007-2019 (n=27,869) linked to national administrative health datasets and further stratified by ethnicity, tumour type and stage of disease. Using descriptive and regression analyses, we compared ethnic groups in terms of the basis of diagnosis (e.

Cellular immunotherapies and immune cell depleting therapies in inflammatory bowel diseases: the next magic bullet?

Gut

December 2024

Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition, Digestive Diseases Institute; Department of Inflammation and Immunity, Lerner Research Institute, Center for Global Translational Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

Despite significant advances in biologic and small molecule treatments and the emergence of combination therapies to treat inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) a large unmet need remains to control intestinal inflammation. New approaches targeting several pathways simultaneously with a favorable safety profile and agents that trigger anti-inflammatory pathways to drive durable resolution of inflammation are needed. This article discusses novel cellular immunotherapies and immune cell depleting therapies in IBD, including CAR-T cell approaches, Tr1 and T regulatory (Treg) cells and cell depleting antibodies such as rosnilimab.
