Purpose: Previous studies show that transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals, especially those assigned male at birth (AMAB), often have low bone mineral density (BMD) before beginning gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT). The reasons for this are not fully understood, and the potential role of androgen receptor (AR) polymorphisms - known to affect bone density in the general population - has not been explored. This study aims to assess the impact of AR polymorphisms on bone health in the TGD population.

Background: Autologous bone grafting is the standard treatment for the surgical management of atrophic nonunion of long bones. Other solutions, such as bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSC) combined with phospho-calcium material, have also been used. Here we evaluate the safety and early efficacy of a novel procedure using autologous or allogenic adipose tissue mesenchymal stromal cells (AT-MSC) seeded in a patented tricalcium phosphate-based biomaterial for the treatment of bone regeneration in cases of atrophic nonunion.

Background: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and parathormone (PTH) have an inverse relation. The 25(OH)D threshold required to maximally suppress PTH has been used as a marker of optimal vitamin D status. Obesity is associated with lower serum levels of 25(OH)D and higher levels of PTH; however, the relation between these hormones in this setting is not well established.

Alterations in cytoarchitecture and molecular signaling have been observed in adaptive and maladaptive responses to stress and presumably underlie the physiological and behavioral changes observed. The relationship between behavioral responses to stress exposure and changes in cytoarchitecture of subregions of the hippocampus and amygdala was investigated in an animal model of PTSD. Behaviors in elevated plus-maze and acoustic startle response tests were assessed in rats 7 days after exposure to predator scent stress.
