The authors have studied by gel chromatography and radioimmuno assay, the molecular forms of prolactine in the serum of normal lactating women and in serum of three subjects having an hypophyseal tumor. 1. In the normal women, one find two pics of prolactine : one migrating like the monomere (M.W. 20000), and the other as a trimere (M.W. : 60000). There is small amounts of a large molecule migrating in the dead volume of the column. 2. In the patients having a tumor, one find not only the monomere but also a large molecule (M.W. greater than 100000) which is the principal form in the serum. The results are compared with these of the literature.

Sodium butyrate regulates macrophage polarization by TGR5/β-arrestin2 in vitro.

Mol Med

January 2025

Department of Critical Care Medicine, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, 238 Jiefang Road, Wuchang, Wuhan, 430060, Hubei, China.

Background: Macrophages play an important role in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC). We will explore the effects of sodium butyrate (SB) on macrophage function.

Methods: The targets of butyric acid were identified using SwissTargetPrediction database and surface plasmon resonance (SPR).

Caspase recruitment domains (CARDs) and pyrin domains are important facilitators of inflammasome activity and pyroptosis. Following pathogen recognition by nucleotide binding-domain, leucine-rich, repeat-containing (NLR) proteins, CARDs recruit and activate caspases, which, in turn, activate gasdermin pore-forming proteins to induce pyroptotic cell death. Here we show that CARD domains are present in defence systems that protect bacteria against phage.

During normal cellular homeostasis, unfolded and mislocalized proteins are recognized and removed, preventing the build-up of toxic byproducts. When protein homeostasis is perturbed during ageing, neurodegeneration or cellular stress, proteins can accumulate several forms of chemical damage through reactive metabolites. Such modifications have been proposed to trigger the selective removal of chemically marked proteins; however, identifying modifications that are sufficient to induce protein degradation has remained challenging.

Myofibrillar Myopathy.

Vet Clin North Am Equine Pract

January 2025

Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO, USA. Electronic address:

Myofibrillar myopathy (MFM) is characterized by segmental disarray of myofibrils and ectopic accumulation of a protein called desmin. Previously thought to be a glycogen storage disease, MFM is now recognized as a stand-alone myopathy. Endurance Arabians with MFM usually present with exertional rhabdomyolysis (MFM-ER) at the end of races, elevated serum muscle enzymes, and myoglobinuria.

Purpose: Posterior fossa ring-enhancing lesions (PFREL) in the adult immunocompetent hosts pose a diagnostic challenge. We aimed to evaluate the spectrum of PFREL etiologies and propose a diagnostic algorithm.

Methods: This study involved a retrospective analysis of PFREL cases from our institution (January 2023 to April 2024) and a systematic literature review conducted using Embase and PubMed databases following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines.
