Alterations in the lipid layer and intercellular corneocyte connections can lead to increased allergen penetration through the skin surface. A normal cutaneous microbiome keeps the opportunistic pathogen Staphylococcus pseudintermedius levels low, but allergic inflammation leads to decreased diversity and increase in S pseudintermedius. Keratinocytes sound the initial allergen alarm via cytokine signaling and promote T-helper 2 (Th-2) inflammation.

Activation of immunoglobulin E (IgE)-associated mast cells (MCs) triggers the onset of pro-inflammatory signals associated with type I allergic diseases. Although histone acetylation changes have been associated with inflammatory diseases, the impact of lysine-acetyltransferase (KAT) inhibitors on IgE-mediated MCs function is unclear. Potential anti-allergic effects of the KAT6A inhibitor WM-1119 on IgE-mediated MCs activation and allergic inflammation were examined in this study.

Background: Skin adhesives containing 2-ocyl cyanoacrylate are a common source of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) that complicate postoperative wound healing. There are limited studies that describe postoperative cutaneous reactions to skin adhesives and clinical management.
Objectives: To review the incidence, description, and clinical management of surgical site ACD to 2-ocyl cyanoacrylate.

Symmetric drug-related intertriginous and flexural exanthem (SDRIFE) is a rare delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction that is considered a variant of systemic allergic contact dermatitis. It is typically triggered by drugs such as beta-lactam antibiotics or antihypertensives. The reaction presents as erythema with flexural prominence.
